The Acolyte Series Adds Star Wars Alum to Play a Wookiee Jedi
Lucasfilm stated during Star Wars Celebration in London that Joonas Suotamo will return
to the Star Wars universe to play a new character in Disney+'s upcoming series The Acolyte.
Suotamo, who originally appeared as Chewbacca in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Solo: A Star Wars Story, has been cast as Kel Naka, a Wookiee Jedi.
Along with previously announced cast members Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Charlie Barnett, the series stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give),
Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).
The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will transport viewers to a galaxy of shady secrets and rising dark-side forces during the closing days of the High Republic era.
Further information about its characters has yet to be revealed, however the project title refers to a Sith in the early stages of their training under an established Sith Lord.
Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) will write and executive produce the Disney+ series, as well as serve as showrunner.
Aside from The Acolyte, Lucasfilm is currently working on a number of Star Wars projects, including Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and others. The Acolyte is set to make its debut in 2024.
