Dolly Parton paid tribute to "wonderful talent" Loretta Lynn after the country music icon died aged 90.

The American entertainer's family shared a social media announcement announcing that Lynn passed away at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 4.

Veteran country singer Parton said she considers Lynn her sister and will miss her "so much". In an Instagram post, she wrote, “So sorry to hear about my sister's friend Loretta.

“We were like sisters during all of our years in Nashville and she is an amazing person, a great talent, has millions of fans and I am one of them. I miss her so much as we all will. You can rest in peace."

Parton's sister and singer, Stella Parton, also shared a tribute, writing from her Twitter account:

"My heart breaks to learn of the passing of my dear friend Loretta. Lynn.

“I will miss all the sweet visits and laughs we shared. Sweet angel RIP.

Just days before her death, Lynn re-shared a scene where she and Dolly Parton harmonized during an appearance on Dolly's ABC variety show in 1988.
