Bill Russell, a legend in the NBA, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon at 88.

There has been a flood of support for the legend, with many prominent sports figures offering condolences.

Michael Jordan is the latest to issue a statement after Russell's passing.

"Bill Russell was a pioneer as a player and champion, as well as as the NBA's first Black head coaches and as an activist."

The statement was as follows: "He was a pioneer and set an example for all Black players who followed him into the league, including me.

A legend has been lost to the world. His family has my condolences. May he rest in peace.

Jordan and Russell are among the most outstanding players in the sport.

They won 17 NBA championships between them and 10 NBA MVP awards.
